Applicants must be members of a credit union in the Tidewater Chapter of Credit Unions. Not all credit unions in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area belong to the Chapter, but Beach Municipal FCU does.

Cross Sell Reminders
This is not in Cross Sell, but it’s something you definitely should promote to those in the target audience.
- Teens — Engage them by asking about their plans for after high school. If they’re wearing a college shirt, ask if they go to that school. Then ask if they need money for college. Tell them about the scholarship opportunities as well as Sallie Mae loans and the Sallie Mae Scholarship Search Tool with a database of over 3.5 million scholarships worth more than $18 billion. Direct them to our website for additional scholarship opportunities and more information.
- Parents — The majority of submitted applications come from students whose parents make them apply. Frontline staff has extensive knowledge regarding our member’s families. Tell them about the scholarships and other college resources even if their child isn’t old enough to apply. If you know their child just turned 16, let them know to be on the lookout in a few years. Get this on their radar now so they’ll recognize the opportunity when it’s time.

How Can Our College Resources Help?
If scholarships and grants aren’t enough to cover expenses, a student loan from Sallie Mae could help.
- Sallie Mae provides competitive-rate loans for students with several repayment options.
- They are a well-established lender with a reputation for low rates and few fees.
- Non-traditional students, like those taking online certification courses, frequently have more luck with Sallie Mae than other lenders.
