2026 Best of Virginia Beach

We're gearing up for Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) and Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4-8, 2026, and we need your support to make it a success! This is a fantastic opportunity to recognize and celebrate the dedicated City of Virginia Beach and Virginia Beach City Public Schools employees who make our community thrive.

Our Goal:

• To highlight the exemplary service of City and School employees through social media spotlights during PSRW and Teacher Appreciation Week.
• To select 5 outstanding individuals from the nominations for special recognition at the Tides Game on June 25th.

Key Dates:

• Nomination Period: March 16 - April 6, 2026
• Tides Game Recognition: May 29, 2026

Call to Action: Staff Involvement

We need your help to encourage nominations of our members who are City and School employees. Here's how you can contribute:

• Promote Nominations:
  • Inform members about PSRW and Teacher Appreciation Week and encourage them to nominate colleagues who embody the spirit of service.
  • Direct them to the nomination form: [Link to Documatix survey]
  • Explain the opportunity for nominees to be featured on our social media channels, and the possibility of being one of the 5 people recognized at the Tides Game.
• Eligibility:
  • Remind members that nominees must be current City of Virginia Beach or Virginia Beach City Public Schools employees.
  • Encourage nominations from a variety of departments and schools, highlighting the contributions of often-overlooked roles.
• Highlight the Importance:
  • Emphasize that this is an opportunity to recognize the "unsung heroes" who contribute significantly to our community.
  • Example: Waste Management, Custodial, Public Works, etc.

Nomination Criteria:

Nominees should demonstrate:

• Exemplary service to the City/School.
• Going above and beyond their required duties.
• Significant contributions to the City/School.
• Positive impact on the community.

Nomination Form Information (Please be familiar with these questions so you can assist members):

The nomination form includes sections for:

• Nominator contact information.
• Nominee contact information.
• Detailed descriptions of the nominee's contributions, service, and community impact.
• Any awards or recognitions the nominee has received.

Marketing Support:

• Social media campaign throughout May, with quote templates provided.
• Hero banner on relevant platforms with a link to the nomination form.
• In-branch support.
• All necessary resources, including the nomination form, will be available on the extranet.
