Free Shred Day Event — Benefiting Operation Backpack

Beach Municipal FCU is hosting our annual Free Shred Day, and we want all team members to feel confident sharing details with members.

Event Details (What to Tell Members)

  • Date: Saturday, April 18

  • Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    (Last arrival accepted at 12:45 p.m.)

  • Location: Thalia Branch

  • Cost: Free

Members can bring personal documents to be securely destroyed on-site.


Shredding Guidelines

Please remind members:

  • Bring documents in paper bags or boxes only (no plastic)

  • Paper clips, staples, and binder clips are okay

  • Arrive no later than 12:45 p.m. to ensure shredding


Supporting Operation Backpack

While shredding is completely free, we encourage members to donate:

  • Backpacks

  • School supplies

  • Monetary donations (optional)

In-branch donations:

  • Cash and checks accepted

  • Checks should be made payable to: Beach Municipal FCU

  • Memo line: Operation Backpack Donation


What Is Operation Backpack? (Simple Explanation for Members)

Each year, hundreds of Virginia Beach City Public Schools students begin the school year without backpacks or basic school supplies. Through our annual Shred Day, we collect donations to help ensure local students have what they need to start the school year prepared and confident.


Volunteer Support Needed

We’re looking for employee volunteers to help during the event.
