IDCheck Shared Branch — Stronger Security

IDCheck Shared Branch is a product to help verify and prove a member's identity to effectively fight account takeover, identity theft and fraud.

Beginning May 1, 2025, IDCheck will be required to verify Guest Members with out-of-state IDs attempting to withdraw from their account.

When Is IDCheck Required?
  • IDCheck is only required for withdrawals and negotiable instrument purchases.

  • If the member’s ID is from a different state than where the transaction is taking place, you must use IDCheck.

  • Guest Members using a Passport as their ID must be scanned through IDCheck.

Exceptions

IDCheck is required for all withdrawals involving an out-of-state ID. Guest Members may only withdraw without IDCheck in exceptional situations:

  • The Guest Member has technical limitations preventing IDCheck use, such as being unable to scan the QR code or lacking facial recognition on their device (e.g., flip phone).

  • The Guest Member has accessibility issues, such as visual or physical impairments, that hinder the use of IDCheck.

In such circumstances, the traditional validation method can be used with a limited withdrawal amount of $200. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE and serves to protect the credit unions and members from potential fraud.

When a military ID is presented, the traditional verification method can be used, and the limited withdrawal amount of $200 will not apply.

FAQs
  • Do I still need to record the ID information on the back of the receipt?
    • Yes. You must still document the ID on the back of the receipt even when using IDCheck.

  • Does this apply to our own members making withdrawals in our branch?
    • No. For our own members, you do not need to run their out-of-state ID through IDCheck.

  • Can a member update their information after it's saved?
    • Yes. Each time a stored member starts the IDCheck process, they’ll have the chance to review and edit their previously entered information.

  • Can we use IDCheck on in-state withdrawals if we choose?
    • Yes. While only required for out-of-state IDs, using IDCheck for in-state withdrawals is allowed at the branch’s discretion. If you suspect the person may be giving you false identification, you are encouraged to use IDCheck.

  • Do Guest Members need to rescan their ID and take a selfie every time for out-of-state withdrawals?
    • No. Their ID and selfie remain valid as long as the ID hasn’t expired and they’re using the same device they used to set up IDCheck.

  • Will we receive training?
    • Yes. Training will occur during the April branch meeting.
